‘Shocking’ Increase in Burglaries Across The UK
Figures released by UK Crime Stats show that in November 2017 there was one burglary every minute in the UK. That’s almost 40,000 burglaries reported across the country during that time. That works out as almost 90 extra burglaries in the month compared to the same period the year before.
However, there are measures that can be used to make sure homes are safe and secure. West Midlands Police recommend several ways to protect your home, including having an alarm system installed in Birmingham.
Crime Reduction Manager for West Midlands Police, Mark Silvester, said: “One of the main benefits of intruder alarms is that they create noise and the last thing that a burglar wants is to be seen or heard. That makes them very effective. They also provide a visible deterrent on the outside of your property.”
Mark added: “Burglars target homes where there are no visible signs of protection such as alarms or security lighting."
All the research shows that burglar alarms are an effective tool. Police state that homes with no security measures in place are five times more likely to be burgled – which is a shocking statistic.
